Brooklyn boy's body found in elevator shaft

Thursday, December 07, 2006

A mystery is unfolding in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn where the body of a teenage boy was found at the bottom of an elevator shaft.

Rescuers were summoned just after 1 p.m. to the Sumner Houses at 22 Lewis Avenue where the body of the 17-year-old was found at the bottom of the shaftway. Circumstances of this incident are not known.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the victim does not appear to be the victim of a crime and his body may have been in the shaftway for some time before housing authority maintenance workers found it.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
