(New York - WABC, December 9, 2006) (WABC) -- The outrage surrounding the deadly police shooting of Sean Bell continued today.
Two weeks after undercover police officers killed the 23-year-old just hours before his wedding, and the community anger was still clearly visible during a protest march this afternoon.
Eyewitness news reporter Stacey Sager has the story from Jamaica.
This has been a focal point for a lot of these protests. It is the site where Sean Bell was killed just two weeks ago. It is also become a memorial site and the means of expressing a lot about police brutality.
Protesters: "Sean Bell. Sean Bell."
With the name Sean Bell, the battle cry in Jamaica and black protesters took to the streets once again.
"I am wearing this shirt just to give the message to the NYPD," a protester, who was wearing a shirt with text 'I AM SEAN BELL,' said. "Look at me. I'm Sean Bell. Look what have you done."
Many of them are members of the New Black Panthers. Some of them are gang members from the Bloods and the Crips joining the protest against the police shooting two weeks ago that took the life of Bell on his wedding day.
The Black Panthers now want residents to boycott stores that aren't own by African-Americans. Today, to make their point, they entered stores like Old Navy and Conway. Some shoppers seemed to be confused and perhaps unconvinced.
Still, other shoppers couldn't help take notice as demonstrators shouted.
Some shopkeepers were nervous and began to close the front doors and lower their middle gates.
Today's march lasted three and half hours. There were no violent incidents. The group has promised to protest every Saturday for the next fifty days to make their point.
