Christmas light show drums up holiday spirit

Friday, December 15, 2006

A Christmas light show at a home in Brooklyn is wowing audiences this holiday season.

And while you drive by, you can also listen to music synchronized to the lights on your car radio.

What's amazing is this is not a professional display.

It's something put together by homeowners on 71st Street between 11th and 12th in Dyker Heights.

Eyewitness News reporter Patricia Wu has the story.

If you're like all the people who drive by this christmas spectacular, you probably just can't get enough of this light display.

And the best part is that you don't even have to leave the warmth of your car to enjoy it. All you have to do is tune into 88.7 FM to hear the music.

"Tell him thank you, good job, smart idea," one spectator said. "I hope he does it every year."

Of course, everyone is talking about the mastermind of this light show, Robert Delauro. He's not only patient and creative, he's also pretty smart. He figured out how to do the whole thing by researching it on the Internet. It's all controlled by a computer in his basement. And he's pretty proud of his handiwork

"I'm like a little kid," Delauro said. "I sit in my car across the street, put the radio on and I can't believe I did that. It looks so nice."

He spent three days putting up the 10,000 lights in the display and says it's worth every second.

"It makes me feel good that I make other people feel good, and I hope I get them in the Christmas spirit," he said.

Delauro's neighbors tell us it certainly has put them in the Christmas spirit.

"You don't see the nativity no more," a neighbor said. "Lights galore, but count the nativities on every block there ain't a one. God bless those people. They have the right idea."
