(Brooklyn - WABC, January 23, 2007) (WABC) -- A worker plunged 60 feet to his death from the deck of a ship at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Tuesday.
The incident happened at the Brooklyn Navy Yard just after 10:30 a.m.
Officials say Arturo Medina fell some 60 feet from the deck of the ship into a hold. He was reportedly in cardiac arrest when emergency workers were finally able to extricate him in a rescue that took more than an hour.
Medina, 36, lived in Brooklyn. He was rushed to Brooklyn Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death. There is still no word on what caused Medina to fall into the ship's hold.
The ship was in dry dock for maintenance.
