Child hit & killed by SUV in Brooklyn

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

Authorities tell Eyewitness News that a four-year-old child was hit and killed by an SUV in Brooklyn.

The accident happened at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Baltic Street in the Park Slope section.

Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Pegues is at the scene and says investigators reveal that four-year-old James Javarrice and his 18-year-old aunt were walking through the crosswalk and had the right of way when a yellow Hummer ran into them.

The accident happened around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. The child was brought to Methodist Hospital in critical condition, but the doctors just weren't able to save the child. The aunt is listed in stable condition.

Police say no alcohol was involved, but they are still investigating. Around 6 p.m., the driver of the Hummer was in a police car being interviewed by police.

Also, on the ground near the crosswalk is a white iPod. Investigators are trying to figure out whether that iPod was being worn by the 18-year-old.
