Horse euthanized after accident in the Bronx

Thursday, February 22, 2007

Eyewitness News has learned that a horse being transported in the Bronx somehow stomped its leg through the trailer.

The accident happened Wednesday afternoon near Webster Avenue and the Cross-Bronx Expressway.

One of the horses apparently stomped its leg through the trailer's wall. A passing driver spotted the leg dangling from the vehicle and stopped the trailer's driver.

The injured horse has been euthanized, according to the ASPCA. They say the horse's name was "please be quick" and was a 3-year-old Gelding -- a term that refers to a male horse which has been castrated.

The horses were traveling from Ghent, New York to Belmont Race Track when the accident occurred in the Bronx. The other three horses were not injured.

The ASPCA is looking into whether the trailer was in good shape for transportation.
