Police search for UES assault suspect

Thursday, May 03, 2007

On Manhattan's Upper East Side, police are warning women to be extra careful following a brutal attack on a 23-year-old.

It happened at an apartment on East 69th Street Sunday night shortly after 9 p.m.

Police say a 23-year-old female was followed to her door by a man, who later punched her in the face and attempted to push her into the apartment onto the floor.

The victim struggled with the suspect and screamed, which caused the suspect to flee the scene on foot, according to authorities.

The suspect is described as:

  • Black male
  • 20 to 27 years-old
  • 6'2
  • Weighs about 220 pounds
  • Was wearing large sunglasses and a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

"I've never felt afraid or threatened even so to hear about this is a complete shock ... It's very scary," one female resident told us.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
