Man shot during home invasion

(Homecrest- WABC, May 18, 2007) (WABC) -- One person is under arrest and the hunt is on for two other suspects behind a home invasion in Brooklyn.Three people broke into a home overnight and shot the homeowner.

It happened at 17-58 East 15th Street in Homecrest.

Crimes scene investigators finished up their work just before noon but are still trying to figure out why the family was targeted and who were the men posing as cops. It's the kind of violence that has rattled this Brooklyn neighborhood.

A 47-year-old opened up his front door for a relative just before midnight last night. That's when three armed men claiming to be police officers forced their way in.

An argument set off gunshots and the thieves took off with the family's safe.

"He tried to grab their safe. He circled around the block over here, and jump into the driveway, through the guys backyard and through the alleyway...He jumps up into a backyard but he's not there anymore. I guess the cops must of taken him away or something," said Simon Nezri a Homecrest resident.

Investigators say the brazen bandits made their getaway but left the safe in an alleyway.

The entire incident has been a shock to people in the neighborhood.

Homecrest resident Joel Levin said, "It's nice people, good people, over here is only Jewish people so it has to be someone from outside."

Another resident said, "I'm quite surprised, you don't normally see stuff here like this."

Police have yet to release the name of the victim.

They still have one suspect in custody and looking for two others.
