Suspect struck & killed by bus in the Bronx

Friday, May 18, 2007

Eyewitness News has learned that a robbery suspect was struck and killed by a bus in the Bronx Friday afternoon.

It happened on Melrose Avenue and East 153rd in the Melrose section, and that's where reporter Jen Maxfield is with the latest.

Eyewitnesses say the suspected robber was too busy looking at the people chasing him to realize he was pedalling right into the path of an oncoming bus. He hit the windshield on the bus.

Police are telling us is that a robbery happened at a jewelry store on Elton Avenue. Witnesses say the suspect was in the store shopping for something when he grabbed right through the partition and grabbed a gold chain with a diamond crucifix valued at $2,000 dollars.

After that alleged robber left the store, he took chase by one of the employees out of the store and into the street. The robbery suspect was then struck by the bus.

No one in the store was hurt, though the alleged robber was pronounced dead late Friday night in the hospital after what police describe as massive head injuries.
