(Middletown, NJ- WABC, May 22, 2007) (WABC) -- A coyote strikes again. This time it bit a 5-year-old boy. Two kids attacked in two months, in the very same town.
Now neighbors are worried, and animal control workers are on the hunt. It's happening in Middletown, New Jersey.
Eyewitness News reporter Ken Rosato is live there with the latest.
The young boy who was attacked, is at home resting, but will have to undergo a series of painful rabies vaccines.
"Our police department was able to set up a perimeter of patrol vehicles. We did have a couple of sightings...," said Town Administrator Robert Czech.
Around 8:30 Monday night, the 5-year-old boy was attacked while playing with his 8-year-old sister in their yard.
"He had lacerations to the back of his head, big bites. He's still stitched up and wrapped up," said the victim's mother Joann Gazette.
The family's black Lab chased the coyote to some nearby woods as the boy's sister screamed for help.
This attack is just hundreds of feet away from the site of last month's attack on a 20-month-old boy.
Residents have reported numerous coyote sightings within recent weeks.
Police say they did manage to shoot at the coyote involved in last night's attack. State wildlife officials are hoping with all the snares they have set up that they will be able to catch this coyote.
As of noon the coyote still has not been caught. Police and wildlife officials are hoping that they are only dealing with one.
