Investigation expands in JFK terror plot

Saturday, June 09, 2007

There are new developments in the JFK terror plot that was uncovered two weeks ago.

One law enforcement official says the investigation into the foiled plot to blow up an airport fuel line is widening beyond the four men that are now in custody.

Authorities say the defendants in custody were just a piece of the plot and that other suspects overseas are being investigated.

Some experts have called the plot far fetched, but the official says that if these four men had contacted the right people, the JFK plan could have been carried out in a short amount of time.

A fourth suspected has been arrested in connection to the alleged JFK Airport terror plot. Officials say Abdel Nur turned himself in at a police station outside the Trinidadian capital of Port-of-Spain.

He is accused of seeking support for the plot from the leader of a radical Muslim in group in Trinidad. Nur's first bail hearing will be on Monday.

Authorities say the four suspects made trips to the airport, took video and photographs, drew diagrams and collected information. They then hoped to shop their information to individuals with the capacity to pull off their stated plan of causing "greater destruction than the Sept. 11 attacks," the official said.

But some experts say it would have been virtually impossible to achieve the kind of destruction the suspects envisioned.

The U.S. ambassador to Guyana, David Robinson, said Friday that FBI agents investigating the JFK plot will travel next week to the nation to "follow up investigations."
