Man slashed in the East Village

Friday, June 22, 2007

A man was stabbed in the neck on Friday night in the East Village, sources tell Eyewitness News.

Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Pegues is at the scene with details.

It's hard to believe something like this would happen on the streets here with so many potential witnesses.

The investigation was underway late Friday night on East 4th Street between First and Second Avenues.

Inside the lobby of 99 East 4th Street is where investigators are focusing their attention. A man was found bleeding in that lobby.

According to sources, the victim had been stabbed in the neck. Another person told us his throat had been slashed. He's been transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Police also tell us the man didn't have any identification on him, so they're trying to figure out who the victim is.
