Violent, deadly night in Brooklyn

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Ten people were shot in a little more than four hours in a bloody night in Brooklyn, claiming two lives and injuring a handful of others.

Eyewitness News is told that first, three people were shot at the intersection of Dorchester Road and East 21st Street in the Ditmas Park section around 10:20 p.m.

Police say a 25-year-old man, called "Indian" by friends, died on the spot with a bullet in the head.

Two women were also shot. A 25-year-old woman was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. And a third victim, a 50-year-old woman, was found shot once at 520 East 21st Street. She was also taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses say the gunman drove up to the building, parked his gray Acura, walked up to Indian, who was standing in the gutter between two other cars, and opened fire.

Detectives believe the wounded women just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In the second incident, police say three people were shot at the intersection of East 91st Street and Clarkson Avenue, in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, at around 12:10 a.m.

All three men, ages 16, 28 and 44, were rushed to Brookdale Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, a man was shot in the leg outside 2105 Bergen Street in the Weeksville section of Brooklyn at around 1:09 a.m.

Officials say he was rushed to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

Then, two people, a man and a woman, were shot in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section. Eyewitness News is told the victims were hit in front in front of 505 Franklin Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. A 33-year-old man was shot multiple times in the torso and was taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries. The 25-year-old woman was shot in the buttocks, and was reportedly taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.

Finally, another man was shot in the Flatbush section this morning. The victim, believed to be a 56-year-old man, was hit once at the intersection of Newkirk and Flatbush avenues at around 2:30 a.m.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition. He may have been buying a lottery ticket at the time he was shot.
