(Ridgewood-WABC, August 1, 2007) (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned the FBI is now involved in the investigation into this morning's Queens shooting.
A Queens businessman man was charged with opening fire on two suspects allegedly trying to hold him up in an extortion attempt outside a Ridgewood home.
Eyewitness News is told, Kupi Lulzim, the 42-year-old owner of a contracting business in Flushing was approached by the men outside 6034 Putnam Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. last night.
At some point the buisnessman opened fire.
Kupi was charged with second degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
He will be arraigned tonight in Queens Criminal Court.
Sources tell Eyewitness News that the 31 year old victim had dropped his weapon and they say Lulzim used it to shoot the man.
Police recovered four hand gunsg at the scene spread over half a block.
All of the men they say are of Albanian decent.
Authorities are now going to execute the search warrant at his house.
According to reports, an unidentified 31-year-old man, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.
However, the other, a 32-year-old Kasa Gendian, was shot in the arm and back and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The 42-year-old gunman was taken to the precinct, where he is being questioned by police.
Four guns -- a .22 caliber, a .25 caliber, a .357 caliber and a .380 caliber -- were taken into custody at the scene. Numerous shell casings were also recovered, according to officials.
Detectives believe the two men knew the businessman had money and were trying to extort him.
