Guard at Indian Point caught sleeping on the job

Monday, August 27, 2007

A security guard at the Indian Point nuclear plant was caught sleeping on the job.

Neil Sheehan of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the guard was supposed to be manning a gate at the second of three security rings around the two plants in Buchanan yesterday.

However, tapes showed there was no breach while other security measures at the gate remained in operation during the guard's nap.

Jim Steets, spokesman for Indian Point owner Entergy Nuclear, and Sheehan said the guard was spotted yesterday just after 2:00 p.m. by an inspector of NRC.

The guard, an Entergy employee, was placed on administrative leave and will be tested for drugs and alcohol.
