Teen shot dead in Queens subway station

Monday, September 03, 2007

A young man was fatally shot next to the token booth at a subway station in the Astoria section of Queens Monday morning.

The 19-year-old victim was shot in the back of the head on the southbound platform of the N train at Broadway Station around 1:15 a.m.

He fell face first onto the ground in front of the token booth and was pronounced dead on the spot.

Police say a group of as many as five young men fled the scene. Sources tell Eyewitness News a worker saw the entire incident.

"I heard, 'Boom! Boom! Boom!" said Eduardo Santos, a witness. "There was a lot of blood. He had a big hole in his head."

"I wasn't sure if it was gunshots because I know sanitation makes the noise but if I knew what it was I would've called the cops right away," Santos added.

Detectives did not have a motive for the murder. No arrests were immediately made. The station was taped off by police for their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
