Ex-LI teacher accused of inappropriately touching student

Thursday, September 13, 2007

Police have charged a former Long Island high school teacher with engaging in sexual contact with a 16-year-old female student.

Suffolk County police say that the 34-year-old male teacher taught math at Longwood Senior High School in Middle Island for four and a half years.

They say he resigned in 2005. A year later, one of his former students told police that he met her outside school and touched her inappropriately.

The man is now teaching at a high school in Harbor City, California. Suffolk police say they spent a year investigating the girl's claims and corroborating them.

The teacher is charged with three counts of criminal sex act. He is being held in Los Angeles, pending extradition to New York.
