Unpleasant surprise for woman letting her cats inside the house

Friday, September 28, 2007

A woman was hospitalized after a home invader pushed his way into her house in a frightening attack in the Gerritsen Beach section of Brooklyn.

That frightening attack happened at 2530 Gerritsen Avenue.

This all happened just before 10:00 p.m. Thursday. Apparently, the 62-year-old woman was assaulted when she opened the back door of her home on Gerritsen Avenue to let her cats inside the house.

Police say, that's when she was beaten by a man wearing a ski mask, possibly armed with a gun, trying to push his way in.

Her husband, an attorney who maintains his office in the building, heard the commotion and ran down to help. He struggled with the suspect before the man ran off.

A mask, believed to be worn by the suspect may have been left at the scene.

Officials say the woman sustained broken ribs and was taken to Lutheran Medical Center. Her husband was not seriously hurt.

Police say that nothing was taken from the home.
