Police investigating a possible bias attack in Lakewood

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

In New Jersey, police are investigating another possible hate crime. This one involves the vicious beating of a Jewish man in Lakewood.

Friends of the victim say he will pull through this vicious attack. Eyewitness News is told he is a third grade teacher.

Authorities say the victim, an Orthodox Jewish man, was found unconscious and bleeding from the head on Princeton Avenue and 12th Street around 8 p.m.

The victim was apparently attacked while leaving synagogue. Police say his attacker hit him over the head.

A bat was reportedly recovered at the scene.

Officials say the victim was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, where he was alert and conscious.

Neighborhood residents are complaining that there are not enough lights on the block where the man was attacked.

Police are searching for the suspect or suspects in this incident. The motive is unknown at this time, and police say they have not ruled out a bias attack.
