Motorcycle fatally strikes a pedestrian in Harlem

Thursday, October 11, 2007

A speeding motorcycle fatally struck a retired school administrator as she crossed a Harlem street -- just blocks from her home.

Eyewitness News has learned 72-year-old Carrie Moulton was struck by the speeding motorcycle as she crossed West 139th Street between Fifth and Lenox avenues just before 8:15 p.m. last night.

According to witnesses Moulton, a retired Board of Education administrator, was thrown to the pavement. The force of the impact cracked her skull. She was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

Police say the motorcyclist did not stop following the collision, but lost control of his bike, falling off and sliding under a parked SUV. Meanwhile, the riderless motorcycle skidded down West 139th Street toward Lenox Avenue.

The motorcyclist was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in critical condition. He is expected to be charged if he survives the crash.

Moulton was described as a widow with a grown son who loved to travel. She was retired from the Board of Education.
