Deadly stabbing in the Village

Friday, October 12, 2007

A man was fatally stabbed in a surprisingly vicious attack on a quiet Greenwich Village street this morning.

Police say the man was attacked in front of a building at 123 Washington Place just before 2 a.m.

Eyewitness News is told the victim, described as in his 40s, was stabbed at least once to the chest.

He was pronounced dead at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Authorities were looking for two men who fled the scene. One witness claimed to have heard an argument between the victim and the two men before the stabbing.

The motive for the murder was not immediately clear. Authorities closed the quiet street to search for evidence.
