LAST MINUTE HALLOWEEN
With Halloween just three days away, some of you still may have no clue what you're going to wear. No worries, there are simple things around your home you can use to make that perfect costume.
With us this morning with some ideas is designer Michele Ammon.
"Caught in the Wind"
You will need:
- Wire Hangers
- Wire cutters
- Duct tape (preferably in the color of your garment) Hairspray Blow dryer
- Any kind of clothing that you don't mind getting damaged: best items: loose, flowing garments, hats, scarves.
(I go to thrift stores and get items for a couple of dollars).1. Untwist hangers and cut to desired lengths.
2. Insert hanger in between seam or lining of garment.
(If there is no liner or seam, then duct tape wire hanger underneath where the tape will not show.)
*Note: Each garment should be wired in the same direction to make it look "real".
3. Insert long wire (will take entire length of hanger) into lining of hat. Affix other end into the collar of your coat or shirt. This creates a "hat blowing in the wind above your head!"
4. Enjoy all of the Compliments that you will get on your costume...people will LOVE it!"Bubble Bath"
You will need:
- Approximately 50 balloons. White and pearlized white or silver.
- One clear shower cap.
- Needle and thread.
- Masking tape
- Scissors
- Silver glitter or shimmery powder for face
- Rubber Duckie
- White or silver clothing that you don't mind getting damaged.
(I go to thrift stores and find clothing for a couple of dollars).1. Blow up balloons to different sizes (ranging from large to tiny).
2. Tie balloons together in clumps.
3. Sew clumps to shower cap.
( You might need to put cap on periodically to find just the right spots.)
4. Sew clumps of balloons to various parts of your clothing until your entire body is covered.
(You will need to take off your clothing periodically to do this).
**Note: If you cannot sew, simply poke small holes and insert the knot of the balloon. Put tape over the knot to hold in place.
5. Tie the balloon knots to your shoelaces.
6. Brush silver glitter or shimmery powder on your entire face.
7. Hold rubber duckie in your hands.
8. Watch people laugh and point..."Wow...it's a bubble bath!!!""Dirty Laundry"
You will need:
- Plastic Laundry Basket
- Lingerie, Socks, underwear, sheets, etc.
- Durable scissors.
- Hammer and awl.
- Masking tape
- Empty (or full) bottle of beer.
1. Stand inside of basket and mark where your feet are. (This will act as your basic guide to cutting leg circles in the basket.)
2. Using hammer and awl, poke hole in bottom of basket (this will make it easier to put your scissors through to cut a circle).
3. Use scissors to cut a leg hole for your leg to go through the basket.
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for other leg hole.
5. Attach (by tying or taping) garments to hang outside of the basket.
6. Dress in anything "dirty" (sexy). Fishnets are great, because your legs will show! For more information, visit at www.micheleammon.com. DOGS IN DANGER
Helping dogs in danger. That's the goal of a new website just launched that works with New York shelters and those across the country to get homes for dogs scheduled for euthanasia.
With us this morning from dogs in danger is Brenda Bush.
How do you get the information for the site?
Shelters across the country (and there are about 250 so far) register with us. Then they post, directly, dogs' names, photos, and euthanisia dates. If a dog is adopted, the information goes into the Success Story part of the site. If not, the dog's picture will go on our memorial wall. All that information is input by the shelters.I get the impression that the site isn't for young children. Right?
We don't think DogsInDanger.com is the right place for parents to sit with young children to pick a new best friend. It might be fine for older children and teens. We advise parents to visit the site first, then decide if it's right for their kids. Some people might say that the "guilt factor" in the site might cause people to adopt without fully understanding the responsibilities, time, and expense involved?
Shelters screen and counsel potential adopters to make sure the dogs will have a "forever" home. That applies to people who come in off the street, or from our site.Have you had a gotten good response from shelters?
The overall response has been good, and our OWN city shelters, run by Animal Care and Control, are participating and getting good results. Nationally, we have well over 200 shelters registered. We're disappointed by the response from some big-city shelters. We're still hoping to get municipal shelters in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and a few more major cities to get with the program. It's a shame, because the shelters that ARE registered are reporting back that the system works better than they could have hoped. What should people do if they want a specific breed of dog?
Shelters have pure-bred dogs for adoption all the time. So we'd suggest going that route first. Of course there's nothing wrong with going to a reputable breeder with a good track record. We do advise people to avoid pet stores. Dogs at most pet stores come from so-called puppy mills where dogs are warehoused in awful conditions, often becoming very sick. What does it cost to use the site?
The site is absolutely free to users and shelters.Who's paying for it?
The initial half-million in seed money was given by the site's co-founder, Alex Aliksanyan. We do take tax-deductible donations on the site. We will never charge for this service.Hoping to decrease the number of dogs euthanized in shelters each year in the United States, a new web site working with shelters across the country is posting pictures of adoptable dogs-along with a countdown clock for each dog showing the days and hours until that dog is destroyed.
Dogs in Danger (DogsInDanger.com), is a free service both for participating shelters and people looking for pets, allowing users to search for dogs slated for euthanasia by location, breed, or time until death.
The site is operated by The Buddy Fund, Inc., a non-profit organization founded by dog lover and pet adoption advocate Alex Aliksanyan.
SNOOPY IN FASHION
Celebrity designs, inspired by Snoopy, up for auction and the proceeds are going to help women succeed in business.
With us this morning is one of the designers, Laura Bennett from project runway's season three along with the CEO of dress for success worldwide, Joi Gordon.
Tell us about MetLife's Snoopy in Fashion e-Bay auction.
We are in the midst of auctioning off our Snoopy in Fashion couture designs from our New York Fashion Week runway show! The proceeds from the auction are going to my favorite charity, Dress for Success. The address is www.ebay.com/snoopyinfashion.I understand you have a few designs in the auction. Can you tell us about them?
I'm a huge fan of Peanuts. My favorite characters are Woodstock and Pig Pen, so I created designs based on them. The Pig Pen design is currently taking bids. Here's a photo of it from the runway. That's Frederique Van Der Wal modeling it.What about the Woodstock design?
Here's a quick photo of the Woodstock design and sketch. It's already been purchased though so I don't want to spend too much time on it. But I'd like to thank the buyer, Todd VonBastiaans, a Peanuts collector from Las Vegas, for purchasing it and supporting Dress for Success. Thanks Todd! What are some of the other designs up for auction right now?
There are some amazing, one-of-a-kind pieces. Visuals are shown as she mentions each of these designs:- This one is from Isaac Mizrahi; he says he really relates to Charlie Brown!
- Elisabeth Hasselbeck from The View designed this Snoopy one; did you know she was a PUMA designer before she became a talk show host?
- Kristin Chenoweth, who won a Tony for playing Sally on Broadway, dreamed up this pink frock. That's pop singer JoJo modeling it. She and Kristin were in the movie RV together.
- Pamella Roland did this cute Peppermint Patty ensemble.
- And perhaps the most outrageous design of all is this Bride of Snoopy gown by Heatherette.
So as you can see there is something for everyone and you can feel good about your purchases because you're helping such a worthwhile cause.Yes, we're all big fans of Dress for Success here. Tell us more about the organization, Joi.

It's the big day for millions of excited music fans across the nation. They too, can rock out like rock stars, thanks to the debut of the highly anticipated game, Guitar Hero 3.
The game is for Playstation 2, Playstation 3, X-Box 360 and Wii.
With us this morning is Kai Huang, the president of Guitar Hero 3 maker, red octane.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock continues to build on Guitar Hero's successful easy to play, but difficult to master gameplay mechanic to take the franchise to a whole new level. With master tracks from legendary bands like Aerosmith, Sex Pistols, Guns 'N' Roses, Rolling Stones, Metallica, and Pearl Jam, along with original music composed specifically for the game by iconic guitarists Slash and Tom Morello, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock sports the greatest soundtrack to ever find its way into a videogame. Vastly improved graphics immerse gamers into their rock arenas and heighten their visual experience while the new wireless Gibson guitar controllers allow the players to channel their inner guitar gods. The arcade-inspired battle mode, expanded co-op career and boss battles add depth and extend gameplay for countless hours of shred time.
KEY FEATURES:
- Crank it up to 11 and get ready to rock - Featuring over 70% master recordings, spanning over 40 years of music across many rock genres, Guitar Hero fans have the opportunity to shred to one of the greatest compilations of music ever. Adding to the track list are some of the most legendary European anthems with a vast array of downloadable content post-launch. From Metallica to Muse and Rolling Stones to Rage Against the Machine, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock offers up a truly legendary set list.
- Truly exclusive music - Multiple tracks that can only be found in the game include guitar icons Slash and Tom Morello contributing original guitar riffs for their boss battles. Also, the Sex Pistols re-entered the studio for the first time in 30 years to re-record "Anarchy in the U.K." providing Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock an original recording not available anywhere else. Additionally, Living Colour re-recorded their Grammy Award winning "Cult of Personality" adding a solo that left legendary guitarist Vernon Reid grunting.
- An authentic look and feel - Improving the graphics from the ground up have created a more intense visual element giving guitar heroes the sense of performing on their own rock stage. Slash, Tom Morello and Bret Michaels spent hours in motion capture suits so that their movements and styles were translated perfectly to their in-game characters. Venue light shows have been coordinated for each song along with choreographing the animations for each band member. Ultra-detailed textures in the fictional characters and multiple outfits give the option of customizing the guitarist to meet everyone's inner grunge, punk, metal or anything in between.
- Rock this way - The arcade-inspired battle mode adds a new dimension to the Guitar Hero franchise. The idea isn't necessarily to hit the most notes, but rather hit the right ones and learn the nuances of using the power-up attacks. With Guitar Battle, Star Power sequences are replaced with Battle Power sequences. Hit every note in the Battle Power sequence and receive a power-up that can be used to attack the competition.
- You've got to beat the best, to be the best - Battle mode lends itself to the boss battles featuring Slash and Tom Morello. After defeating a boss, unlock them as a playable character and continue to the encore for the set list, which is a master recording of one of their most legendary songs. After defeating Slash, the next performance is "Welcome to the Jungle" and Slash stays on stage to play with the gamer. Likewise for Tom Morello and the hard-hitting "Bulls on Parade."
- It takes two - Taking the co-op experience to the next level is the new Co-op Career mode giving guitar heroes the chance to progress through their career with a friend. Since not all songs play well for both the lead and bass tracks, only the best songs are pulled from the single player career mode with six co-op career exclusive encore songs.
- Rockin' around the world - Compete head-to-head in any of the competitive game modes online to prove who the most legendary guitar hero really is. Or, for those looking for a more friendly experience, shred to a few tracks on the lead or the bass in co-op online.
- Dude, where's my wire? - Wireless guitars on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii will have the Gibson Les Paul guitar shape, while the PS2 will be receiving a new design in the Gibson Kramer Striker shape.
- Axe innovation - All guitars will have detachable necks for easier portability as well as storage. Adding a new level of personalization to the Les Paul Guitar controllers are interchangeable faceplates giving guitar heroes the opportunity to show their style via their instrument.
For Wii:
- Now that's a Guitar! - The Wii Gibson Les Paul guitar controller has a void in the guitar for the Wii Remote to snap into and connects to the Wii Remote via the Nunchuk port. By using the Wii Remote, the guitar controller utilizes the wireless technology and accelerometer.
- That's Wii terrific! - Adapting the Wii Remote's technology, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock uses both the rumble feature and the speaker on the Wii Remote. The rumble can be felt shaking the guitar when rocking out with Star Power. The speaker comes in handy when playing multiplayer as "clinks" are heard through the Wii Remote as opposed to being ported through the TV speakers.
