Tuesday, November 13, 2007

Four people were hurt, one seriously, when an Access-A-Ride vehicle crashed into a Queens park Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just after 2:30 in the Middle Village section of the borough.

The injured were all described as elderly. They were reportedly taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center. Three of those in the car suffered minor injuries, according to police. The one seriously injured victim, a male, suffered chest trauma.

The driver of the vehicle is among those hurt, according to EMS.

"It was pretty bad," one witness said. "You can see what the car look like. The whole top is gone."

The cause of the accident, at 77th Street and Juniper Boulevard, is not immediately known.

Access-A-Ride vehicles transport passengers who are mobility-impaired. Access-A-Ride vehicles are operated by private contractors who are overseen by the NYC Transit Authority.
