NYPD detective arrested on drug charges

(New York- WABC, November 16, 2007) (WABC) -- A New York Police Department detective has been arrested on drug charges.

Authorities say Detective James Calderon, a 13-year veteran assigned to the Bronx courthouse, is accused with two other people of running a crack cocaine and heroin organization.

Among other things, they're accused of sending drug shipments from New York to traffickers in Virginia.

In a raid Friday, authorities say they seized cocaine, heroin, drug paraphernalia and $4,000.

If convicted, the defendants could face up to 20 years in prison for criminal possession of a controlled substance, and eight and one-third to 25 years for conspiracy. He was arraigned earlier Friday.

Cocaine, Heroin, and a lot of cash is a lot of the evidence seized in this case authorities said.

Calderon was arriagned for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Conspiracy in the Second Degree. Sources tell Eyewitness News the suspect is being arraigned with his former girlfriend.

The two deny any inolvement in this case.
