(Queens - WABC, November 24, 2007) (WABC) -- A fire gets out of control on a group of people just trying to stay warm early this morning in Queens.
One person died.
The fire department says the blaze broke out about 3:40 a.m. on Hillside Avenue near 178th Street.
The fire started on a fence and jumped to a makeshift shanty where a group of homeless people were sleeping, trying to stay warm.
Those inside managed to escape but the fire department says one man didn't get out in time and died.
The man has not been identified.
