NEW YORK (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned a teen was shot outside a school in the Jamaica section of Queens.
The school was on lockdown as a result of the shooting.
Police say the victim was shot at a bus stop near the Queens School for Career Development, at 142-10 Linden Boulevard.
Three shots were reportedly fired, and the victim was hit at least once.
It is not clear if the victim then ran into the high school.
An NYPD sergeant and an officer responding to another job came up on the dispute. One shot was allegedly fired at the officers, and they may have returned fire. No one was hit.
NYPD say two gangs got into an argument outside the school around 10:30 this morning.
The shot teen was taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
His injuries were said to be not life threatening.
Neighbor Charlene Brooks says "There were like 20 cops in our back yard going back and forth. I didn't know what was happening I was looking out of my window and saw cops running."
Investigators say a crips member shot a 16-year-old bloods member.
Two people were in custody.
There are no metal detectors at the school.
The school was one of the less than 30 nationwide identified in 2007 as being "persistently dangerous" because of their reported crime statistics during the 2005-06 school year.
The Queens Academy high school is also located in the building.
