Dentist accused of inhaling laughing gas

A Long Island dentist is accused of inhaling laughing gas for non-medical reasons.

A Long Island dentist has been arrested for inhaling laughing gas for non-medical reasons.

Suffolk County police arrested Dr. Norman Rubin, of Shirley, and charged him with inhalation of hazardous inhalants, a misdemeanor.

Police were called to Rubin's office at 50 Karl Avenue, Suite 301, in Smithtown on Wednesday afternoon by a patient who found the dentist in apparent distress.

Police and emergency medical technicians learned that Rubin had been inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. After being treated, Rubin was arrested.

Upon being medically cleared, Rubin was placed under arrest and charged with inhalation of hazardous inhalants, a misdemeanor.

Rubin was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on May 13.
