Math teacher accused of teen sex

Thursday, March 27, 2008

A math teacher at Wantagh High School was charged with having sex with a student she was tutoring in Massapequa.

Police say 25-year-old Heather Kennedy of Massapequa was accused of having sex with the 16-year-old boy last Thursday.

She was arrested Wednesday evening at her home on charges of third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

Nassau County Police say the two had sex in a car in the parking lot of Massapequa High School on March 19. The boy's father called police the next day, after his son told him why he was late getting home.

She was charged with rape and will be arraigned later today in First District Court in Hempstead. Kennedy was supposed to be tutoring the student in math at the time of the crime.

Wantagh schools Superintendent Carl Bonuso told that Kennedy, who has been a teacher for 3 years, has been reassigned outside the classroom pending the outcome of the investigation.
