Police hunt for suspect in attempted rape

Monday, April 14, 2008

Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a man wanted in connection with an attempted rape.

Authorities say the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. Sunday in SoHo. Police say a 25-year-old woman entered her Sullivan Street apartment and was followed by the suspect, described as a black male in his 20s.

As she opened the door to her apartment, authorities say the suspect forced his way in, pushed her onto the bed and began to choke her. He then allegedly stated that he was going to rape the victim.

The attack was interrupted by a neighbor, who overhead the victim's screams. The suspect then fled the apartment.

The suspect was captured on video, and police are hoping that will lead to his arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls are strictly confidential.
