MIAMI (WABC) -- New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez missed his first game of the season yesterday, but he had a very good reason.
The injured slugger was in Miami, where his wife gave birth to their second daughter Monday night.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi says everyone is doing well.
Rodriguez strained his right quadriceps Sunday in Baltimore. The third baseman is scheduled to rejoin the team Thursday, when he'll be re-evaluated to see how well his quadriceps has responded to treatment. It's unclear when he'll play again.
Rodriguez is batting .308 with four homers and 10 RBIs.Despite his absence, the Yankees powered their way to a 9-5 victory over the Chicago White Sox last night.
