Purse snatcher has straphangers on alert

Friday, May 16, 2008

Women riding the subway in Manhattan need to be extra careful. There's a purse-snatcher who is so determined -- so unrelenting -- that he's been looking for a new victim practically every day.

The NYPD is all over this. They had 50 officers in the target zone yesterday waiting for the guy to strike again, and he did. Now, police have released a sketch of the suspect: He is described as a black male, between 30 to 35-years-old, medium build, about 5'9".

They say the man has struck four times in the last five days. The latest attack happened on No. 6 station at Lafayette and Bleeker Street around 7:30 a.m.

Police say in that attack the 27-year-old woman had her purse snatched and dragged her for several feet before running down the subway tunnel. Officials say this is his pattern because he knows no will go chasing after him.

All of the robberies have happened inside subway stations in Manhattan during the morning rush hours.
