Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Police are hunting for at least one gunman wanted for wounding at least six people during a shooting rampage in Harlem.

In all, eight people were shot Monday in what police believe were two separate incidents that happened at almost the same time, in almost the same place.

Authorities say all the victims were believed to have been inside Marcus Garvey Park at 124th Street, where a basketball tournament was being held.

According to police, a dispute appears to have broken out inside the park at around 10:15 p.m., and at least person opened fire.

It is not clear if the shot people were hit on Lenox Avenue or in the park, and collapsed as they fled the dispute.

The victims are:

  • A 17-year-old boy shot in the chest was found at Lenox Avenue between 124th and 125th streets. He is in stable condition at Harlem Hospital.
  • A 16-year-old boy shot in the foot was found at Lenox Avenue and 126th Street. He is in stable condition at Harlem Hospital.
  • A 13-year-old boy shot in right thigh was found at Lenox Avenue and 126th Street. He is in stable condition at Harlem Hospital.
  • A 15-year-old girl grazed in the forehead was found at Lenox Avenue and 126th Street. She is in stable condition at St. Luke's Hospital.

  • A 16-year-old boy shot in the abdomen was found at Lenox Avenue and 125th Street. He is in stable condition at St. Luke's Hospital.

Officials say two people were shot a half-hour earlier near the scene, but that shooting is not believed to be related.
