Elderly man hurt in hit and run

Monday, June 02, 2008

An elderly man was seriously hurt when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn Monday.

Authorities say the incident happened at 200 Montegue Street, near Cadman Plaza West, just after 3:30 p.m.

The 88-year-old man stepped into the street and was struck by an unidentified automobile, according to authorities. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.

Police confirm that the victim was on the hood of the vehicle between half a block to a block before he fell off. Witnesses say the driver was swerving in an effort to get the man off his car. The driver then sped away.

No arrests have been made. The victim is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Police are asking anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
