Manhole fire causes serious subway trouble

Sunday, June 08, 2008

Find out what's happening before you go.

A Brooklyn manhole fire shut down some subway lines Sunday evening, but service was back to normal by later in the night.

At one point the G, F and 4 lines were all out of service, and the 2 and 3 lines were affected as well.

It took some time for service to get back to normal, even once the trains started rolling again.

The fire hit around 5:45 p.m. in the Boerum Hill neighborhood. MTA officials say all trains were able to move - but slowly - and all had lights and air conditioning. No passengers were injured, and none were trapped at any point.

Consolidated Edison spokeswoman Elizabeth Clark says it's not clear whether Sunday's sweltering heat was a factor in the fire.
