Two people killed in fire on Staten Island

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Two people are dead after an overnight fire swept through a vacant building on Staten Island.

A fire official says two men were found dead in the blaze on Bay Street near Victory Boulevard in the Saint George section. The fire was reported about 12:39 a.m. Tuesday.

The fire spokesman says the blaze was pretty bad. When firefighters arrived it had already made its way through the abandon building. It took crews about two hours upon getting inside the building to get the fire under control.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for observation. The cause remains under investigation.
