Plane makes emergency landing at JFK

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

An airplane with a blown tire has made a safe emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Delta Air Lines Flight 141 was bound for Salt Lake City on Tuesday afternoon when it blew out a tire on takeoff from the Queens airport. Passengers say they heard a loud explosion and started praying.

A Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman says the plane circled Kennedy for hours to burn fuel and dumped extra fuel over a nearby body of water before landing.

A Delta Air Lines Inc. spokeswoman says there were no injuries. She says the Boeing 737-800 will be checked by maintenance workers and the passengers will be rebooked on other flights.

She says the tires are checked regularly but she doesn't know when they were last replaced.
