Truck slams into stores on Staten Island

Monday, August 18, 2008

Police are searching for a driver who crashed into three store fronts on Staten Island.

The stores are located along Port Richmond Avenue.

The driver fled the scene.

All three stores are Mexican-owned, and that has authorities wondering if this was more than an accident.

The incidents happened around midnight, and a witness says a red pickup trucks hit each business, then backed up and hit them again.

The doors are bent and the glass is shattered inside one of the two restaurants hit.

A friend saw the damage at one of the places and called the owner in the middle of the night.

Police say the same truck also ran into a nail salon, all within a three block area.

Police continue to search for the suspect.
