Pace University student found strangled

Monday, September 01, 2008

A Pace University student was found strangled in his Chelsea apartment.

He's been identified as 19-year-old Kevin Pravia. Police say he was found last night in his bed with an electrical cord around his neck. His mouth was stuffed with plastic.

Pravia lived in an apartment at 239 West 15th Street. His roommate made the frightening discovery--and called police.

Investigators say there were no signs of a break in--and they are not yet calling this a homicide.

Pravia was from Pittsfield, Mass. but was living in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. He was a sophomore honors student at Pace University.

School officials say they are saddened by the news and offered sympathy to Pravia's family and friends.

The medical examiner will determine a cause of death.
