JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- It was deadly, random attack at a light-rail station in Jersey City, police said.
The victim, 36-year-old Michael Fuccile of Metuchen, was attacked near the intersection of Johnston Avenue and Phillip Street at around 8:30 a.m. He died at Jersey City Medical Center.
Witnesses say Fuccile was stabbed in the neck as he waited for a train on his way to the Jersey City Waterfront, where he worked as the director of chief compliance for Merrill Lynch. He is reportedly a father of three.
A spokeswoman for Merrill Lynch released the following statement:
"We are both shocked and saddened by the death today of one of our esteemed colleagues, Michael Fuccile, who was killed in a senseless attack this morning. Michael was a delight, a bright, dedicated colleague, who embodied the best of what Merrill Lynch is about. This is a great loss to our firm."Two bystanders followed the suspect, investigators said, and helped police take him into custody. Murder charges are pending against 24-year-old Elgin Louis Taylor, Jr., who is described by his parents as a mental patient with schizophrenia. He apparently disappeared Wednesday, and his parents say they tried to call the police to alert them he was missing.
Police taped off a large area near at the entrance at Liberty State Park, where a pool of blood was visible in the street.
