Two teens charged in shooting of girl

Thursday, October 23, 2008

The News Leader

Two teenagers have been charged in a New York City gang brawl that led to the shooting of a 5-year-old girl.

The child, Jakelyne Delgado, was walking with her parents on a Queens street Monday when two rival gangs began fighting. She was shot in the back.

She's hospitalized with a punctured left lung.

Prosecutors say the 16-year-old and 19-year-old suspects were charged Wednesday evening with assault and other offenses. They're each being held on $250,000 bail.

Attorneys for the suspects haven't returned after-hours telephone messages.

Police are searching for additional suspects in the case.

Prosecutors say one of the teens told authorities he and the other teen fired into a crowd.
