Correction officer arrested for DWI

Friday, November 14, 2008

A New York City correction officer will be in court on Long Island today. He's accused of killing a woman while being drunk behind the wheel.

The correction officer is facing some very serious charges -- and he has an arraignment this morning in Hempstead.

Police say 45-year-old Junior Jordan was driving his Ford Explorer on Thursday at 5:40 a.m. when he collided with Hyundai driven by Maria Balan.

Balan, 61, was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where she was pronounced dead only an hour later.

Correction officer Jordan was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter in the 2nd degree and driving while intoxicated.
