Construction worker rescued on West Side

Thursday, December 11, 2008

As first reported early Thursday morning on Eyewitness News -- a construction worker is being treated for injuries after he was hit and nearly flattened in a wild collapse of concrete, wood and metal rebar on the Westside.

It happened in an underground chamber at 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue.

Three other workers managed to scramble out. But the fourth man was pinned from the waist down.

Officials say he was conscious during the rescue and rushed to Bellevue Hospital. He is listed in critical but stable condition.

One paramedic was injured during the rescue after slipping and falling on some debris.
