BROWNSVILLE (WABC) -- Police in Brooklyn are still looking for the driver who struck and killed a mother with a stolen van and never stopped -- as her children looked on in horror.
The victim, identified as 45-year-old Stacey Blount, was a long-time customer at a hair salon at Mother Gaston Boulevard and Sutter Avenue in the Brownsville section.
Eyewitness News is told she had taken her two children in to wish everyone a happy 2009 and then walked out around 7:00 p.m.
As she stepped into the street, a van traveling at what a witness believed to be 95 to 100 m.p.h. hit her.
Police say they had been following the 2003 Ford van, but not chasing it. They found it abandoned a short distance away at Rockaway and Belmont.
The woman's daughter raced back in the salon for help. Blount was taken to Brookdale Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver remains at large.
