NEW YORK (WABC) -- A former television host who tried to parachute off the Empire State Building has been sentenced to three years of probation and 100 hours of community service.
The Manhattan judge who sentenced Jeb Corliss on Thursday for reckless endangerment says he can serve his sentence in California.
Corliss is from Malibu, Calif. He says he has made more than 1,000 jumps from structures and cliffs worldwide.
He was arrested in 2006 before he could parachute off the 102-story Manhattan landmark.
The 32-year-old daredevil and former host of the Discovery Channel's "Stunt Junkies" had faced a year in jail. The judge says he received letters from Empire State Building officials and the police commissioner asking for jail time. But he says it wasn't warranted.
Corliss calls the judge "a wonderful man."
