Children injured in hit and run accident

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Two children suffered injuries in a hit and run accident in Brooklyn.

Accident happened at 3:15 p.m. at Marcy Avenue and Quincy Street in the Bed-Stuy section.

Police said the driver of a Black 1988 Mercedes Benz somehow struck a tree, then jumped the curb striking the two children on the sidewalk.

The boys are brothers, 16 and 4 years old. They were walking home from school, police said.

Investigators are looking for the driver, who took off on foot. Police said the car had South Carolina license plates.

The boys, identified by relatives as Dillan Jackson and his elder brother Dwayne, 16, were hospitalized in stable condition.

The 4-year-old was the more injured of the two, suffering a broken pelvis and a broken leg.

The boys' father died in 2005, said their uncle, Jerome Matthews, 27. The older boy is a junior at the Brooklyn High School of the Arts, he said.
