ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (WABC) -- Investigators are trying to solve a series of sexual assaults and other suspicious incidents that have occurred in both Englewood and Hackensack over the last two months.
Women were approached from behind by a suspect who would grab the victims and either sexually assault them or attempt to sexually assault them.
All of the incidents occurred on streets as the victims were walking. Some incidents occurred near the residences of victims.
Most of the attacks occurred during evening hours between approximately 5:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.
The suspect struck twice in the morning in Englewood, New Jersey.
The description of the suspect has varied between a dark skinned man to a brown skinned man with medium complexion, early to late 20's, thin to medium build and wearing dark colored clothing.
Due to the similar characteristics of each assault and incident, police are investigating whether the perpetrator is the same person in both the Englewood and Hackensack assaults.
Police are asking that women who are walking alone be alert of their surroundings and to immediately contact the police if they see anyone suspicious near them.
The sketch shown above is the suspect as described from a January 28, 2009 incident at 5:30 a.m. in Englewood, New Jersey.
Any other agency experiencing similar assaults or suspicious incidents, please contact the Englewood Police Department at (201) 568-2700, Hackensack Police Department at (201) 646-7777 or the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit at (201) 226-5500.
