Woman shot by arrow in the Bronx

Sunday, March 15, 2009

A woman was shot in the stomach with an arrow in the Bronx Sunday.

Police said the incident happened around 2 p.m. on Independence Avenue. Yonkers resident Denise Delgado Brown, 51, was pulling up to the front door of the Shervier Nursing Care Center to drop off two friends. As she was getting out her car, police say she was suddenly struck by the arrow.

Delgado Brown was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, where doctors removed the arrow. She is listed in stable condition.

Police converged on the Riverdale care center, which is mostly surrounded by large apartment buildings. They say the arrow struck the victim in a downward motion, as if someone fired it into the air. They don't believe she was targeted, and they think it could have come from a park-like area behind the care center.

The incident is disturbing to people in the area.

No arrests have been made.
