Trio of robbers targeting Brooklyn businesses

BROOKLYN (WABC) -- Police in Brooklyn are asking for help catching a group of bandits.

Police say they've robbed at least a half-dozen businesses in the last month, each time fleeing the scene in a black Ford Expedition. But someone turned the tables on their last heist.

In each case, two of the suspects enter the business while the third one remains in the SUV.

The robbers hit the Sarubia Grocery at 1266 East 37th twice, on April 6 and April 22. They didn't get any money in the first case, but they did the second time around. A customer was also injured during that robbery.

The bandits have struck three more times since then. The most recent was this past Saturday, May 9, but that time they got more than they bargained for and the entire incident was captured on surveillance video.

The two men entered Blondies Deli at 607 Greenwood Avenue shortly before 7 p.m. One of the bandits jumped on the counter and tried to get money out of the register. But before he could, the store owner and another employee chased the two suspects out of the store.

One of the men managed to grab hold of one suspect, but his associate came back with his gun, ready to shoot. The suspect eventually got away.

"I wouldn't have given them the money," store employee Sunny Kumar said. "[But because of the gun], my life is more important than the money."
