JERSEY CITY (WABC) -- An iron worker fell to his death while working on a NJ Transit bridge in Jersey City overnight.
Authorities say 34-year-old Casey Moran of Bayonne plunged off a railroad bridge over the Hackensack River just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The iron worker fell 30 feet from a lift bridge tower to the tracks below. He was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center in cardiac arrest and pronounced dead.
Moran, a contractor for NJ Transit, was with five other workers at the time of his fall. The workers were repairing the stairway of the bridge tower. The tracks on the bridge were out of service at the time of the mishap.
It was not immediately known what caused the iron worker to fall. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
The property where the worker died is owned by NJ Transit, which is investigating the cause of the fall. Detectives said that preliminarily, all safety procedures seem to have been followed.
NJ Transit service was not affected during the morning commute.
