Suspected drunk driver kills girl, injures mom

BREWSTER (WABC) -- A little girl is dead after a deadly accident in Putnam County.

The accident happened near a dance studio along Route 22 and Main Street in Brewster at 6:45 p.m.

According to witnesses, the mother had just picked up her 8-year-old daughter at the dance studio, Seven Star School of Performing Arts.

The pick-up truck hit them as they were walking, pinning both against a building.

The daughter was killed, state police said. The mother was rushed to the hospital in "very bad shape," according to authorities.

Investigators said the driver of the pick-up truck was drunk. He was arrested at the scene. Charges were pending.

No names were immediately released.
